    Question

    Hi,

I just came across a signed Felicity doll on ebay, and it is at $500 right now, still have a few days left. I am not familiar with signed dolls. Why are these so expensive? Is it worth the money? I probably can not afford it, but just curious...

They are expensive because they were either signed and numbered first edition or because they were autographed upon meeting Pleasant Rowland. So they are very rare.

Some collectors prize this sort of piece, so if you are that type of person, then yes it is worth it.

To me it is not worth the money. My collection is not of first editions and white bodies (although I do wish my Kirsten was white body, since she is pre-felicity). I would not pay this sort of money, I would rather have $500 of accessories and clothes (although I wouldn't get that either.)

Board members have bought these dolls and said they were worth every penny.

    I echo the previous post.
It depends on what you want.
I do not collect accessories and furniture since I do not have the space, so I go for "oldies"
I have the original 3 white bodies, a signed Lissie and a first issue Addy.
Is it worth $500? Well... I can not say "no" since I paid that much for mine at AG a couple months ago (they still had a handful of them from the old days) However, she came in box, with perfect pristine hair, a first edition book, hang tag and flier, that most dolls on ebay do not have. She also had her certificate of authenticity with matching number and signature.
At any rate, I bet you the one on ebay now will end up way higher than that... some people have a LOT of $$$

I agree with Henna. There was a signed Samantha that didn't have a certificate that went for over $800.

Isn't the signed Sam more rare? ( Or any other Pleasant Co doll for that matter?" I dont remember hearing of her signing any other doll but Lissie, except for special occasions.....

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">It's been said on here that the original catalogs had a thing where you could buy any of the three girls signed. I don't have any catalogs before 1994, and I don't remember who all has said that. I think they were like $150?

I don't think they're worth the money AT ALL. But that's just me. Unless you're looking for an older doll, it seems really strange to me to pay 800+ for a doll signed by Pleasant Rowland. It's not like her signature is worth money, so, it's just the older doll, with provenonce (sp?) that she's older, I guess. It sure doesn't seem like any of them are "rare," they're on ebay pretty often, and I'm sure Pleasant or any of the authors would have signed them at any point in time.

There was one Christmas when they offered the historical dolls with all their clothes and accessories as a complete set. If you purchased it that way the doll would be signed. I'm not sure which year that was.

Thanks so much for all the responses. I have convinced myself that I don't need a signed doll. My un-signed Felicity is just as precious (to me at least). I would rather spend $500 on her clothes & accessories.
